Challenge
Assessing medical benefit cases required 2 to 4 hours of manual work per case because case handlers had to gather relevant information such as diagnosis, incapacity for work, and treating physicians by hand from extensive medical files.
Solution
Askantis developed a system of OCR and generative AI that automatically segments uploaded medical documents, extracts 10 to 20 predefined information points, consolidates the results, and checks for inconsistencies. Every extracted answer is traceable to the original page. A chat interface answers targeted follow-up questions on the extracted data.
Impact
Processing time per case was significantly reduced, the system runs around the clock, and consistency checks reduce human error.
